Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will be in Washington, D.C., and Houston from 15 to 19 March to further enhance energy cooperation between the EU and the U.S.

Tomorrow, she will first participate in a roundtable discussion with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and representatives of the U.S. private sector. Later in the day, the Commissioner will be co-chairing the 11th EU-U.S. Energy Council with Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and Deputy Secretary for Energy David Turk. The opening remarks will be broadcast live on EbS at +/- 20:00 CET (15:00 EST).

The EU-U.S. ministerial meeting will address the EU's overall energy security outlook, and progress and cooperation on the EU’s diversification away from Russian fossil fuels. It will also address how to coordinate support to Ukraine and Moldova in the energy sector as the Russian aggression and manipulation continues. It will also aim to foster coordination on sanctions against Russia in the energy sector, energy policies towards Western Balkans and the development of clean technology supply chains and critical raw minerals.

On Monday and Tuesday, 18 and 19 March, Commissioner Simson will participate in the CERAWeek 2024 annual energy conference in Houston. She will attend the 'Energy Partner Informal Conversation' where she will engage with U.S. energy companies on EU energy security, outlook for gas consumption in the EU and on EU energy transition; and participate in a panel discussion on ‘Energy: The impact of competition and rivalries in a mutipolar world’. On Tuesday, the Commissioner will hold a bilateral meeting with the Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira and will participate in a discussion with global companies at the Europe Forum ‘Europe’s Energy and Industrial Transition: Restoring Confidence’.
