Energy efficiency - targets, directive and rules

By reducing overall energy consumption, these measures and targets on energy efficiency contribute towards achieving the EU’s goal of climate neutrality by 2050.

Energy Efficiency Directive
First adopted in 2012, the directive was updated in 2018 and 2023, setting rules and obligations for achieving the EU’s energy efficiency targets.
Energy efficiency targets
The EU has set ambitious targets for 2030 to reduce primary and final energy consumption as part of its 2050 decarbonisation objectives.
