Commission invites international gas suppliers to respond to fourth EU tender for joint purchases

Today, the fourth tender for the joint purchasing of gas under the EU Energy Platform starts, and the Commission invites international reliable gas suppliers to submit their bids to serve European customers.

This fourth tendering exercise will run until tomorrow (5 December) and will cover gas deliveries from January 2024 to March 2025. It comes after European companies registered an aggregated volume of 10.06 bcm of gas purchase needs on the AggregateEU mechanism between 23 and 28 November. This level of aggregated demand shows the continued interest of European companies in this joint EU mechanism aimed at making energy supplies secure and affordable.

After Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the EU established the AggregateEU mechanism under the EU Energy Platform to enable demand aggregation and joint gas purchasing at the European level. It is open to all EU Member States and the Energy Community Contracting Parties, and excludes Russian companies from participation. This is a core part of the EU’s efforts to diversify and secure energy supply, stabilise energy markets and ensure EU Member States are prepared for the colder months.
