Description

Indirect land use change has been identified as a major sustainability risk in conventional crop based biofuels. The increase in demand for agricultural crops used for biofuel production might cause conversion of additional land in sensitive areas into cropland which can lead to significant greenhouse gas emissions. The report develops a methodology and a certification approach that aims to minimise such risks by ensuring that the additional demand for biofuel feedstock is met by increasing agricultural yields and cultivating crops on previously unused land.
