Europe’s largest annual conference on renewables and energy efficiency will take place in Brussels and online next week from 20 to 22 June. The theme of this year’s conference is Accelerating the clean energy transition - towards lower bills and greater skills. One month into the European Year of Skills (May 2023 – May 2024), the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) will focus on the important role to be played by skills in accelerating Europe’s energy transition to ensure clean, affordable and secure energy for consumers.
The conference will be opened on Tuesday morning by EU Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, who will be joined by high-level representatives from the Swedish Council Presidency, the European Parliament and civil society. The prestigious EUSEW Awards Ceremony, which acknowledges outstanding individuals and projects in four different categories, will follow.
Also on offer during the EUSEW 2023 will be
- 7 plenary and 60 policy sessions covering topics related to skills, energy efficiency, affordability and inclusion, renewables and decarbonisation
- the Energy Fair with more than 35 stands
- the fourth edition of the European Youth Energy Day
- networking opportunities with experts, policymakers and other professionals driving Europe's energy transition
Reflecting the theme of this year’s conference, ‘skills’ and ‘affordability and inclusion’ will be high on the agenda, with 24 dedicated sessions. In the context of the EU’s higher ambition for energy efficiency and renewables, a wide range of speakers will explore how the sustainable energy sector can build a European workforce equipped with the necessary skills to achieve our increased clean energy targets. Of equal importance are the policy sessions dedicated to affordability and inclusion. Drawing on the lessons of the energy crisis, we must make sure that EU citizens are protected in the case of any future price volatility in the energy market.
Following the success of last year’s hybrid format, participants are once again invited to join EUSEW either in person or online. Last year’s edition attracted more than 8000 participants with around 1500 delegates attending in person and 6 500 tuning in remotely, from 120 countries. EUSEW 2023 marks the 17th edition of the event. Launched in 2007 by the European Commission, EUSEW is organised by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) in close cooperation with the Directorate-General for Energy.
