Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will represent the Commission at the Energy Council in Luxembourg on Monday, 19 June, where EU Energy Ministers aim to reach a General Approach to the reform of the EU’s electricity market design proposed by the Commission in March.

The proposed reform would boost renewables, better protect consumers and enhance industrial competitiveness, as part of the Green Deal Industrial Plan. It is designed to make consumer and industry energy bills less dependent on volatile fossil fuel prices, shield consumers from price spikes and make the EU’s energy supply more sustainable.

Drawing on the lessons learnt from the energy crisis last year and the successful implementation of the REPowerEU Plan, the Commissioner will update the ministers on energy preparedness for next winter. She will also inform them about recent developments in the field of external energy relations.

At the end of the meeting, Commissioner Simson will participate in a press conference alongside the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU, it will be web streamed on Europe by Satellite.
