Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, is hosting an event today in Brussels to discuss a new report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on smart electrification.
The ‘Innovation Landscape for Smart Electrification' report provides a toolbox for governments of 100 innovative solutions to tailor national strategies and cut emissions in end-uses of energy. Electrification of energy use in industry, transport and buildings with renewables is part of the EU’s plan to reach climate neutrality by 2050 and improve energy efficiency.
EU co-legislators have recently agreed to aim for a 45% share of renewables in the energy mix by 2030 and the Commission has put forward a reform of the EU’s electricity market design to boost the uptake of renewables across all sectors.
Commissioner Simson and IRENA’s Director-General, Francesco La Camera, will give introductory speeches at the event, and representatives of ENTSO-E will also speak.
The event, which will be livestreamed from 16:30 to 18:00 CEST here, will close with a Q&A session with the audience.
