Commissioner Simson in Australia to enhance energy cooperation

Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson is in Australia until 8 April to engage with government representatives and stakeholders to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of energy. The EU and Australia have a longstanding cooperation, both bilaterally and in multilateral fora, including on climate change and the energy transition. Most recently, Australia joined the Global Pledge to triple renewable energy capacity spearheaded by the EU at COP28.

On Thursday 5 April, the Commissioner will hold a bilateral meeting with Mr Chris Bowen, Minister for Climate Change and Energy of Australia. On Monday 8 April, she will meet with Madeleine King, the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia. The Commissioner will also participate in a series of public events and discussions with stakeholders from academic and business sectors. On Thursday 5 April, she will deliver a speech at an event organised by the European Australian Business Council, with high-level business and industry representatives. On Friday 6 April, she will deliver opening remarks and participate in a public panel at the Energy Institute of the University of New South Wales. On Monday 8 April, the Commissioner will address the National Press Club of Australia, which will be televised, and then meet with Australian Energy Producers, the country's main industry body for LNG and upstream oil and gas producers.

During her country visit, the Commissioner will also visit the Solar Industrial Research Facility of the University of New South Wales and meet researchers working in leading research and technology hubs for energy innovation including on hydrogen, storage and electricity grids. She will also visit Port Kembla, Australia's first terminal for LNG imports.
