The Commission has launched a new 'Citizens’ Engagement Platform' as an online forum for people to share their views, experiences and ideas on topical issues related to EU policies.

The first topic for debate is energy efficiency, one of the main pillars of EU energy policy. EU citizens are invited to discuss the challenges and benefits of energy efficiency and what it means for households, businesses, and communities.

The platform offers a space to discuss how to make more energy-efficient decisions in our daily lives, for example how we produce and distribute energy, renovate our homes or what energy efficient appliances we buy. Better practices across Europe will help reduce the EU’s dependence on fossil fuels from Russia, cut greenhouse gas emissions and reduce energy bills - while improving our health and wellbeing.

The aim of the platform’s debates is to create an engaging discussion among citizens, which will feed into the work of a panel of 150 citizens from across Europe who will discuss this subject in more depth and produce specific recommendations for EU legislation or initiatives such as the upcoming Recommendation on the ‘Energy Efficiency First’ Principle due later this year.

Participants can register to join the discussions in any of the EU’s 24 official languages. The platform will be moderated to ensure that it remains a safe, respectful, and welcoming space for all Europeans to make their voice heard.

With this, we invite citizens to take a seat at the table and join the debate, by engaging on EU policies that impact us all.
