Citizens’ Panel on Energy Efficiency, 2nd round of debates 15-17 March 2024

150 randomly selected citizens from across the EU will, again, come together to discuss key themes of importance to achieve energy efficiency and the challenges to overcome.

They met in Brussels in February to discuss 'How can the EU prioritise energy efficiency and bring its full benefits to citizens, public authorities and enterprises?' They identified the main themes they consider to merit further analysis during this second, online, round of discussions: energy infrastructure, transport and buildings.

In the March session, the citizens will look into the main obstacles they see holding back further progress, from a lack of a qualified workforce, insufficient information, investments, adequate policy and regulation and disproportionate bureaucracy.

They will also draw on the input posted by citizens on an online discussion forum, the Citizens’ Engagement Platform, on energy efficiency. There is still time to contribute!

The objective of the weekend’s discussions will be to draw up specific recommendations that will feed into upcoming laws and initiatives of the European Commission, such as a draft recommendation on the energy efficiency first principle, due later this year. The plenary sessions of the weekend’s discussions can be followed online at 14.45 on Friday 15 March and at 12.40 on Sunday 17 March.
