The 17th Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan Conference takes place on 13-14 November in Barcelona where representatives from government, industry, research and academia across Europe will attend to discuss energy research and innovation for a competitive Europe.

The agenda includes high-level speakers from the EU institutions and Ministries, and also panel discussions, participatory sessions, side events and networking opportunities. The sessions will explore the new approach of the SET Plan, focusing on cross-cutting issues, such as the integration of societal needs, digitalisation and circularity in the development and deployment of clean technologies. The SET Plan progress report for 2023 will be published and presented at the occasion.

Research and innovation is crucial to overcoming the energy crisis and tackling climate change. The conference provides an opportunity for stakeholders to establish connections and expand collaborations aimed at developing and accelerating the deployment of innovative clean energy solutions.

Registration for the SET Plan conference has now closed, but it can be followed online

The event is organised under the patronage of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU, in cooperation with the Commission Directorate-Generals for Energy and Research and Innovation and the Commission’s Joint Research Centre.

Background

The SET Plan was launched in 2007 and aims to accelerate the development and deployment of low-carbon technologies through cooperation among EU countries, industry, research institutions and other stakeholders.

It plays an important role in the EU’s competitiveness, supporting research, innovation and the scaling up of technology in the energy sector.

Since 2008, the SET Plan conferences follow the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union and take place in the corresponding country.
