The prices and costs for energy evolve over time depending on many different factors like the prices of inputs, market competition and market integration conditions, regulatory and policy-related costs, taxation as well as consumers’ needs and behavioural patterns. Since 2014, the Commission publishes every two years a report on energy prices and costs, which takes stock of the latest trends for gas, electricity and oil prices, as well as other energy costs in Europe and internationally.
This workshop will summarise the 2023 edition ‘Evaluating impacts on households and industry’ of the study to illustrate the importance of this publication for EU policy making. At the same time, the Commission will introduce the 2024 study, present its scope timeline and lay out the next steps, asking for industry stakeholders’ support and contribution.
