The European Commission has published a draft regulation shaping a common EU-wide rating scheme for data centres in the EU. It invites the public to provide feedback on the document over the next 4 weeks.

In the meetings of the Energy Union Task Force (EUTF) Security and the Oil Coordination Group held today, representatives from the European Commission and EU countries informed on the situation concerning the EU’s oil and gas security of supply, in view of the ongoing disruptions in the Middle East.

In 2025, the EU imported € 336.7 billion worth of energy products, amounting to 723.3 million tonnes. Compared with 2024, imports decreased both in value (-11.1%) and in net mass (-0.6%).

The situation in the Middle East and the blockage in the Strait of Hormuz is having a serious impact on global energy security and commodity prices. In the Commission, we are in close contact with Member States on regular basis, to assess the impacts.

Considering the market volatility stemming from the conflict in the Middle East, the European Commission is calling on EU countries to start gas filling season and preparations in a coordinated manner and in time for next winter.
France notified to the Commission plans to introduce a scheme to support the production of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen by new electrolysers for the purpose of reducing (industrial) greenhouse gas emissions.
This measure will contribute to the transition towards a net-zero economy and reaching the 2030 renewable energy target set at EU level.

The European Commission has launched a 12-week open public consultation and a 4-week call for evidence to help shape EU energy efficiency rules for the decade ahead.

The call for evidence is open until 16 April and the public consultation until 12 June 2026.
