The EU energy ministers will aim to conclude talks on a Market Correction Mechanism, which the Commission put forward last month to limit episodes of excessive gas price spikes.

The 20th Ministerial Council meeting of the Energy Community, held in Vienna today, has reached agreement on a number of important issues which will further enhance energy cooperation between the EU, the Western Balkans and the three Eastern Partners – Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia.

In the context of Russia’s war in Ukraine, the dialogue centred around the challenges that Moldova faces this winter, and ways in which the EU can further help in terms of affordable and secure energy supplies.

In the context of global challenges such as the fight against climate change and the ongoing energy crisis, this dialogue will allow for a structured engagement on energy policy development, regulatory reforms, and practices in the two regions.

Leaders from Viet Nam and the International Partners Group, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the United States, Italy, Canada, Japan, Norway and Denmark have today (14 December) agreed a bold Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

The Energy Community is a key partner for the EU, bringing together our neighbours to create an integrated pan-European energy market. This year, the Ministerial Council meeting will focus on the impact of the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, and security of supply.

Today the President announced that the EU has mobilised around 800 power generators to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion.

Energy communities bring together citizens to take joint action to produce local, clean energy, and contribute to increasing social acceptance and investments linked to local energy projects, which benefit communities both at societal and economical level.
