Ongoing battery projects from the recent Horizon 2020 calls for proposals.

The EU supports many projects that advance batteries technologies to benefit consumers and industries. Following the launch of the European Batteries Alliance in October 2017, additional calls for proposals on batteries were published to further boost development.

Please find below an overview of the funded projects from 2017 onwards.

The HELIOS project aims to develop high-performance modular battery packs for sustainable urban electromobility services.

LIBERTY works to improve the safety of lightweight battery systems for extended range.

MARBEL

MARBEL looks at the manufactuting of modular and reusable EV batteries for environmentally friendly and lightweight mobility.

SENSIBAT will work with cell-integrated sensing functionalities for smart battery systems with improved performance and safety.

The SPARTACUS project will develop spatially resolved acoustic, mechanical and ultrasonic sensing for smart batteries

BAT4EVER

BAT4EVER develops autonomous polymer based self-healing components for high performant Lithium-ion batteries.

HIDDEN

HIDDEN will develop technology that will hinder dendrite growth in lithium metal batteries, extending their lifespan.

BATTERY 2030PLUS

BATTERY 2030+PLUS is a large-scale research initiative which coordinates six other innovation projects.

MIGHTY

MIGHTY looks at the improvement of the manufacturing processes of lithium-ion batteries.

SEED

The SEED project aims at extending the same concepts of lithium-ion batteries to other more abundant ions.

Programmable Matter

Programmable Matter will work towards triggering specifical chemical reactions on materials, leading to a so-called programmable matter.

Worlds of Lithium

Worlds of Lithium project will examine how strategies of transition from fossil fuel transport to electric mobility powered by lithium-ion batteries are deployed inChile, China and Norway
