Under the arrangements for emergency preparedness and response, the European Commission transmitted the alert message received from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the Fukushima nuclear emergency on 11 March 2011. It then established an emergency team on 12 March 2011. The team was active 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for a period of three weeks.
