EU-Türkiye cooperation on energy issues

Türkiye is a candidate for EU membership and, given that it is a major energy importing and transit country for natural gas flowing from the Caucasus and Central Asia into the EU, energy cooperation with Türkiye is particularly important.

The EU cooperates with Türkiye to enable the integration of the Turkish gas and electricity markets into its internal energy market and to support the country in reaching its 2053 net zero emission targets.

The last ministerial meeting under the EU-Türkiye High-Level Energy Dialogue took place in January 2016. Since 2019, however, the dialogue is suspended at the political level.

Türkiye is an observer of the Energy Community.
