The initiative, launched by the Commission on 23 June 2026, will accelerate clean electrification across industry transport and buildings sectors, helping to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, enhance energy security, and shield economies from price volatility and supply disruptions.
Electrify Now will facilitate practical exchanges, showcase replicable national and regional initiatives, and help mobilise investment, particularly in emerging and developing economies, focusing on
- scaling clean power generation end resilient supply chains
- modernising grids and expanding storage
- accelerating the electrification of the industry, buildings and transport sectors
Clean electrification is a core strategy to strengthen resilience, stabilise energy costs and enhance long-term competitiveness.

The initiative is open to all. Governments, financial institutions, industry representatives and other partners are invited to express their interest and engage with ec-getf
ec [dot] europa [dot] eu (the Commission’s coordination team).
A core group of governments and industry players joined Electrify Now on its first day, underlining that rapid electrification is an economic and strategic priority, not only a climate goal.
The first mover coalition of Energy Now includes the European Commission, Brazil (the COP30 Presidency), Türkiye and Australia (COP31 Presidency), Ethiopia (incoming COP32 Presidency), Canada, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, the International Energy Agency and the International Renewable Energy Agency.
Platforms, such as the Global Energy Transition Forum, will be used to expand endorsement and maintain continuity across key milestones.
Electrification – a global target
The final and global energy demand met by electricity is just above 20%. It is set to grow at around twice the rate of overall energy demand, yet current trajectories fall 10% short of what is needed.
Closing this ‘electrification gap’ is essential to translate clean power expansion into real-economy decarbonisation and to deliver on the COP28 goals to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency improvements by 2030.
Electrify Now will be a vehicle to advance on the COP31 Presidency's new global target to raise electrification to 35% of final energy demand by 2035.
The target is based on analysis from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
Electrify Now will advance practical cooperation and showcase implementation efforts that can drive progress towards this goal.
