ENTEC2 uses a multidisciplinary approach to analyse emerging trends and innovations across energy, mobility, buildings, digitalisation and the circular economy.
Its work builds on the foundation of its predecessor (EnTEC), bridges research, industry and policy, fostering knowledge exchange to ensure European companies remain agile and competitive in a fast-evolving energy landscape.

It applies a systematic framework to identify energy-relevant challenges and engage leading experts across its broad network to carry out exploratory studies on emerging trends and in-depth analyses of specific issues, accompanied by robust policy recommendations.

Study team
The expertise centre’s study team brings together over 140 experts from the energy sector and related fields. It monitors key trends and provides actionable, data-driven insights to help policymakers, institutional actors and other stakeholders meet the objectives of the European Green Deal, taking into account long-term sustainability, affordability and competitiveness for citizens, businesses and industries.
EUREC represents Europe’s renewable energy research community to EU institutions and, will oversee and implement both exploratory and in-depth research projects for ENTEC2. With its members leading research groups across Europe, EUREC is involved in all renewable energy technologies, as well as supporting areas such as energy efficiency, storage and integration.
The following research centres and institutes will participate (the list might not be exhaustive):
the Austrian Institute for Sustainable Technologies, conducts applied research in renewable energy and resource efficiency. Its focus areas include buildings, industry and energy grids. With strong expertise in storage, water and thermal technologies, it supports stakeholders through consulting, testing and demonstration projects.
is Austria’s largest non-university research institute, recognised for its innovation in energy, mobility, health and safety. Its Centre for Energy advances sustainable systems by integrating renewables, storage and smart technologies. AIT develops efficient, decarbonised solutions and strengthens energy infrastructure through targeted research projects.
is Germany’s national research centre for aeronautics, space, energy and transport. It develops technologies to address climate, mobility and energy challenges. Supporting public and private sectors, DLR transfers research into practice via its wide network of institutes and multidisciplinary expertise.
is a private research centre based in Bolzano/Bozen, dedicated to tackling key societal challenges, including sustainable energy. Its Institute for Renewable Energy conducts applied research on energy systems, including efficient buildings, PV, and heating/cooling solutions. With dedicated labs, it contributes to innovation through national and international projects.
is a leading German research institute studying how innovations emerge and affect the economy, society and policy. With interdisciplinary expertise, it assesses the potentials and limits of technological, organisational and institutional change, supporting decision-makers in shaping sustainable transformations.
is a top R&D centre in nanoelectronics, blending basic and applied research. Its Energy business line focuses on photovoltaics, storage, and power electronics. Imec’s solar research explores new materials and concepts to improve PV performance, driving renewable energy and autonomy.
is Sweden’s leading state-owned research institute, promoting sustainable growth and innovation. Collaborating with industry, academia and government, RISE advances applied research across sectors. With unique testbeds and expertise, it supports the development of solutions that drive the digital transition and enhance industrial competitiveness.
is a consultancy with over 40 years of experience in renewable energy R&D and market integration. Specialised in solar, wind, biomass, and hydro, it supports public and private clients. WIP bridges research and application, having completed over 350 EU and international projects.
is a non-profit foundation focused on solar energy, hydrogen, batteries and synthetic fuels. Founded by public and private actors, it develops clean energy technologies and strategies, offering system-level guidance to support the energy transition and climate-friendly policy development.
