Fourth round of demand aggregation for joint gas purchasing starts today

Today, the Commission is launching the fourth opportunity for European companies to register their gas purchase needs via the AggregateEU mechanism, in view of jointly purchasing gas on the international market.

European companies have until 28 November to respond to this call for gas demand aggregation. Prospective buyers will be able to submit their demand for gas to be delivered between January 2024 and March 2025. Their collective demand will then be put out to tender on the global market from 4 to 5 December for international suppliers to submit their bids to supply European customers.

Executive Vice-President Maros Šefčovič said:

'This round of gas demand aggregation is another opportunity for European companies to join forces to purchase the energy they need. As we begin the heating season for most of Europe, the EU Energy Platform continues to contribute to our efforts to keep everybody warm this winter and keep energy at affordable prices, for citizens and European industry. The EU Energy Platform is a success story in terms of our collective response to last year’s energy crisis, and it continues to serve us today.'

The EU Energy Platform was created as part of the REPowerEU Plan to boost the diversification of EU gas supplies after Russia invaded Ukraine and the EU collectively decided to end its dependence on Russian fossil fuel imports. Demand aggregation and joint purchasing is done via the AggregateEU mechanism which is open to all EU Member States and Energy Community Contracting Parties.
