ACER - the EU agency for the cooperation of energy regulators - is looking for new or alternate members of its Board of Appeal and has launched a call for expression of interest. The role involves assessing appeals against eligible ACER individual decisions and providing expertise to the board’s proceedings, deliberations and final rulings.

ACER works closely with National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) responsible for energy in EU countries to ensure that the European market for electricity and gas functions well. The agency plays a central role in the integration and completion of the European Internal Energy Market for electricity and natural gas. It has the power to adopt binding decisions on specific cross-border cases.

Its main purpose is to resolve disputes between national regulators and ensure consistent application of EU market and network rules where agreement cannot be reached nationally. Appeals against decisions can be addressed to ACER’s Board of Appeal. The board consists of 6 members and 6 alternates serving a 5-year term. The term of the current members and alternates ends on 17 October 2026, with the new term starting the day after.

Following this call for expression of interest, the new members and alternates will be selected and proposed by the Commission and formally appointed by ACER’s Administrative Board after consulting ACER’s Board of Regulators. Applications must be sent by email to ENER-C3-BOA-ACERatec [dot] europa [dot] eu (ENER-C3-BOA-ACER[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu) by midnight on 31 March.

More information on the organisation and work of the Board of Appeal, working conditions, the criteria for selecting candidates and details on how to apply can be found in the call for expressions of interest.
