On 27 November, Commissioner Simson will be in Aalborg, Denmark, to attend the third Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Forum, co-hosted by the Commission with the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities.
This event will bring together the EU institutions, Member States, third countries, NGOs, business leaders and academia to discuss the importance of CCUS technologies in reducing emissions in hard-to-abate sectors, creating a circular economy and emphasising the importance of international cooperation on climate and energy issues.
Carbon capture, storage and utilisation technologies are expected to help the EU reach its net-zero emissions goal set in the European Green Deal for 2050. As the Commission is working on an industrial carbon management strategy, the Forum will, among others, focus on the need to implement industrial carbon strategies to reach climate neutrality and de-risking carbon management projects.
During her visit to Denmark, Commissioner Simson will visit the Port of Aalborg, where she will see several applications of CCUS technologies, including the Norne Carbon Storage Hub, the AAU power-to-x test and demonstration plant, and a methanol fuel cell car. She will also attend the inauguration of the ConsenCus pilot plant, which is financially supported by the EU via the Horizon2020 research and innovation program. During the visits, the Commissioner will be accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Frederik and the Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities of Denmark, Lars Aagaard.
The CCUS Forum, where the Commissioner will deliver a keynote speech, can be followed on DG Energy’s YouTube channel.
