Commissioner Simson attends inauguration of the International Atomic Energy Agency's World Fusion Energy Group in Rome

Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, is in Rome to participate in the inaugural Ministerial Meeting of the World Fusion Energy Group (WFEG) by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) tomorrow, hosted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The WFEG will bring together representatives from the public and private sectors, industry, academia and civil society with the goal to accelerate the research, development, demonstration and deployment of fusion energy.

The Commissioner will deliver a speech tomorrow morning as part of the Ministerial Meeting.

In the margins of the event, she will also hold a series of bilateral meetings with key actors in the nuclear sector. She will discuss fusion energy as well as nuclear safety in Ukraine with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi. She will also discuss about the latest developments around ITER, the international nuclear fusion research and engineering project, with its Director General Pietro Barabaschi.  

She will also meet bilaterally with the Italian Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, and participate in a meeting of the regional cooperation group Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8).
