In the meetings of the Energy Union Task Force (EUTF) Security and the Oil Coordination Group held today, representatives from the European Commission and EU countries informed on the situation concerning the EU’s oil and gas security of supply, in view of the ongoing disruptions in the Middle East.

EU countries reported that oil and gas security of supply remains stable for the moment, despite being affected by fluctuations in global prices.

While oil stocks remain at high levels, the Commission and EU countries discussed preparedness in case of a prolonged disruption of energy flows through the strait of Hormuz. The exchanges focused on the preparation of a forward-looking analysis of market conditions and EU capacities, aimed at informing possible future coordinated actions. EU countries also invited the Commission to support them in ensuring a close coordination and transparent exchange of information.

The exchanges from the EU TF Security and the Oil Coordination Group will inform the discussions in the upcoming extraordinary TTE-Energy Council on 31 March. The Commission will continue monitoring and assessing the situation, and keep regular communication with EU countries, IEA and market participants.
