Stakeholder meeting to conclude the public consultation on electricity market design

In the context of the energy market crisis and at the request of EU heads of government, the Commission is working on a proposal for a structural reform of the electricity market. To provide input for these legislative proposals, the Commission launched a public consultation, from 23 January to 13 February 2023. The consultation document highlights the options to make electricity prices more independent of volatile fossil fuel prices, to improve the framework for developing long term electricity markets, increase the use of flexibility and related energy services in the market, to broaden consumers’ access to renewable energy power production, and increase consumer choice of contract.

To conclude the process, the Commission is holding an online meeting with European organisations on 15 February. As interest in this matter is high, we have decided to stream the event as well, to allow greater access. The meeting will give European associations a further chance to highlight the points they consider critical for the upcoming market reform proposal.
