6th PCI Energy Days

© European Union, 2025

The 2025 edition of the PCI Energy Days is dedicated to the practical implementation of Projects of Common Interest and of Projects of Mutual Interest

We will invite representatives of EU country administrations, regulators, grid operators and project promoters to meet with the industry, civil society and the wider financing community to discuss and share successful examples of how they have overcome some of the most pressing challenges in building and modernising the energy infrastructure needed to meet the EU’s 2030 climate and energy targets.

    • 14:15-15:30  High-Level Panel “Connecting the Dots: Grid Planning, Flexibility and Innovation for a Sustainable EU Energy System”
      • The Clean Industrial Deal emphasizes the crucial role of electrifying the EU economy in achieving our climate and energy goals while also ensuring the affordability and competitiveness of our industry. A key enabler of this transition is the development of efficient electricity grids, which facilitates the timely connection of industry and customers. This session will explore the intricate relationship between electricity grid planning, the connection of new users, the role of flexibility and innovative alternatives to system expansion, ultimately paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient energy future
    • 15:30-16:00  Coffee break
    • 16:00-17:00  High-level Panel “Connecting Europe's Energy Future: Lessons Learned and Future Directions”
      • The High-Level Panel will explore the key lessons learned from the current Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF) and the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), reflecting on how these instruments have supported cross-border energy infrastructure and market integration. Building on this, speakers will discuss how EU financial tools can more effectively mobilise investment from public and private sources. Looking ahead to the next MFF, the panel will examine how the future CEF, the European Competitiveness Fund and National and Regional Partnership Plans help drive the clean transition, strengthen competitiveness and ensure affordable prices for consumers
    • 17:00-18:30  Networking cocktail
  2. 3 Dec 2025, 08:00 - 15:30 (CET)
    Day 2
    • 08:00-09:00  Registration and welcome coffee
    • 09:30-11:00  “Scaling Up Hydrogen: De-risking and infrastructure implementation”
      • Hydrogen is central to the EU's 2050 climate neutrality goal and industrial competitiveness, enabling decarbonisation of hard-to-electrify sectors and transport. Recent initiatives like the Clean Industrial Deal, Action Plan for Affordable Energy and the Hydrogen and Gases Package provide strategic direction and legal certainty to attract investment. However, high costs, unmitigated risks, delays in offtake agreements continue to hinder project development at scale. This session will map the main obstacles to bankability and discuss possible de-risking approaches and the practical aspects of developing hydrogen infrastructure, including repurposing of existing natural gas networks or building new dedicated pipelines, as well as possible standards and technologies associated with these developments
    • 11:0-11:30  Coffee break
    • 11:30-12:30  PCI Garden Talks: Smarter Grids, Brighter Future
      • For electrification to be truly successful, it is essential that its benefits are accessible and affordable for both customers and industries. Innovative smart, digital and grid enhancing technologies hold tremendous promise in optimising the existing grid’s performance, unlocking its full potential and making electrification a reality for all. This session will explore the current landscape of digital and grid enhancing technologies in Europe, examining their progress, future growth potential and the links to the regulatory framework that will support their development
    • 12:30-14:00  Lunch
    • 14:00-15:15  “Procuring Grid Technologies: Addressing Challenges and Scaling Up Good Practices”
      • To drive the timely deployment of energy infrastructure, it is crucial to have in place a robust supply chain that can deliver cutting-edge grid technologies and efficient procurement framework. This session will explore the challenges faced by the procurement departments of European grid operators and, on the other hand, technology suppliers, while also it will provide examples of good practices which have the potential to be further replicated
    • 15:15-15:30  Closing of PCI Days
