Energy performance of buildings is key to achieving the EU’s Climate & Energy 2020 objectives and long-term targets. The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive1 (EPBD) sets minimum requirements for the energy performance of new and retrofitted buildings, requires certification of building energy performance and declaration via energy performance certificates, and requires inspection of building heating and air conditioning systems. In 20182 the EPBD was amended to address the following aims: • accelerate the cost-effective renovation of existing buildings, with the vision of a decarbonised building stock by 2050 • mobilise investments in building renovation • support electromobility infrastructure deployment in building car parks • introduce new provisions to enhance smart technologies and technical building systems, including automation. In consequence, new provisions to enhance technical building systems were introduced.
