Dashboard for energy prices in the EU and main trading partners 2024

This dashboard presents monthly and annual prices series collected as part of the Study on energy prices - evaluating impacts on households and industry's costs: 2024 edition. For electricity and natural gas these cover wholesale prices, and retail prices for households (including taxes) and industry (including taxes and levies, without VAT). For petroleum products these include crude oil prices, petrol, road diesel and heating oil (including taxes and levies).

Prices are provided for the period from 2014 up to 30 June 2024 where data is available. Prices have been adjusted for inflation and are expressed in EUR2023 (real price) terms. Further methodological details and a list of used sources can be found in the main report (see the link above) and in the below further description.

The EU average series represents the (final consumption) weighted average of prices for the current EU, and the maximum and minimum prices represent the highest and lowest price recorded across the 27 EU Member States for that period.

When not explicitly mentioned, The Member State price series represent the consumption band (published by Eurostat) with the highest share of the market within the country.
Most typically for electricity this is DD (household) and IF (industry), and for natural gas D2 (household) and I5  (industry). Also, for some countries, there is only a single datapoint per year, which refers to the annual average; If there are 4 datapoints, these refer to quarterly averages. Note also that this dashboard displays price averages, meaning that prices experienced by individual consumers can significantly differ, especially since the start of the energy crisis in 2021.

Sources: for retail prices Eurostat data is mainly used. Conversion from annual to monthly prices is done by Enerdata using for households the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) and for industry the Producer Price Index (PPI) respectively to convert annual Eurostat data to monthly figures. For wholesale prices, multiple sources are used, including ENTSO-E and Enerdata EnerMonthly for many electricity price graphs, as well as multiple national sources for wholesale prices in different regions. To fill up gaps – mainly for gas wholesale prices - , data made available by S&P Platts was used.
