Objective of the consultation

The aim of the public consultation is to gather the views and opinions of all interested stakeholders on the Nuclear Decommissioning Assistance Programme by means of a questionnaire.

Upon their accession to the EU, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Slovakia committed to shut down eight Soviet-designed nuclear power reactors before the end of their scheduled lifetime. In exchange, the EU committed to provide financial assistance for decommissioning the designated power plants, namely: Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) units 1 to 4 in Bulgaria; Ignalina NPP in Lithuania; and Bohunice V1 NPP in Slovakia. With the Nuclear Decommissioning Assistance Programme, the European Union assists Bulgaria, Lithuania and the Slovak Republic in implementing the steady process towards to decommissioning end state of the concerned nuclear power plants whilst maintaining the highest safety standards.

This public consultation is designed to support the mid-term evaluation of the Nuclear Decommissioning Assistance Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period.
